Lauralton Hall vs. Pomperaug: Round Two

Lauralton Hall coach Steve Schuler was asked about tonight's matchup between his No. 2 Crusaders and No. 8 Pomperaug at Southbury (7 p.m.).

His response?

"What game," Schuler said sarcastically.

He knew. And anyone else who follows girls' basketball around the state knows as well.
A pair of top 10 teams, both which boast a division I-bound player, is certainly the featured game on tonight's girls' hoops schedule.

Schuler said he expects it to be much different game in comparison to the first meeting this season between the two South-West Conference powerhouses.

Pomperaug's Katie Cizynski, a formidable post player headed to Fairfield, found herself in early foul trouble in the first game. Meanwhile, Lauralton Hall's Keylantra Langley, who will play at St. John's next season, shot a dreadful 4-of-26 from the field. The Crusaders ended up beating Pomperaug 39-32.

But if all goes according to plan, both will be major factors tonight. Schuler says the difference, though, will come down to another player, one who steps up and plays beyond expectations.

The Panthers will be looking to avenge their only loss this season. As for the Crusaders, they hope to keep their undefeated season going.

"This probably won't be the last time we see them," said Schuler, referring to a potential matchup with the Panthers in the SWC tournament.
