Tolland senior Kristin Schatzlein has been named this year’s Gatorade Connecticut Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.

Schatzlein, a 6-foot guard headed to Fairfield, is the first player from Tolland to win the award. She is averaging 20.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 5.5 steals and 2.1 blocks for the Eagles, who will face Ellington in the Class M semifinals on Friday.

Schatlzein earned Register All-State honors as a junior. She maintains a B average in the classroom, has volunteered on behalf of youth basketball programs and has raised money to benefit diabetes research.
